Earth Hour 2011: It's time to go beyond the hour

At 8.30 PM on Saturday 26 March 2011, lights will switch off around the globe for Earth Hour.

This year, when the lights go back on, we want you to think about what you can change in your daily life that will benefit the planet. To share your stories, thoughts and ideas with us and to get inspiration from what others are doing. So tell us what you're going to do and we'll tell the world.

Together our actions add up.

RUN YOUR OWN EARTH HOUR

Why not help us spread the word about Earth Hour this year by organising your own Earth Hour event. It can be large or small, a dinner party with some close friends or a street party for the whole neighbourhood. Organising an event could be your Earth Hour action for the planet so make sure you tell us all about it.

Criteria to make your city an official Earth Hour city

For a city, town or municipality to be officially recognised as a participant in Earth Hour 2011 it must meet at least one of the following three criteria:

1) Have the official support of its governing authority (e.g. Governor or Mayor).

2) Have confirmed participation of a significant landmark or icon that is nationally recognised. It is not necessary to have an internationally recognised icon or landmark.

3) Have the support of an official Earth Hour Ambassador who is nationally recognised. It is not necessary to have an internationally recognised Ambassador.

Any Earth Hour activity in a city must be substantiated by a third party Earth Hour activity outside the borders of WWF/non-WWF Earth Hour organising team.
